The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

~ Franklin D. Roosevelt, American politician and 32nd President of the USA

This newsletter isn’t meant to be a political statement. My intention is to bring awareness so that you exercise your human right to vote! Some of you may be feeling like there’s a lot in your life that feels out of control. We’ve talked about these chaotic times in previous newsletters. It’s not surprising that you might also feel excited, elated, disappointed, disillusioned, and fearful all in the same day. Remember to stop, take some deep breaths, and bring your awareness into your heart space while you ride the wave of emotions that you feel. These are your feelings and you don’t have to hold onto or suppress them. Feel them and then let them go as you become more centered and calm. Focus on what you can do in each moment.

We voted! Have you? Maybe you’ve felt excited and energized. Maybe some of you have felt afraid that your vote won’t be counted. You’re not alone. I found myself researching alternative ways to submit my ballot rather than mailing it for the first time. Wow!! Challenges, yes? There are also solutions. I found that I could deliver it to an official ballot DropBox in AZ and then track my ballot to make sure that it was verified and certified. It worked great! There are many websites with information; however, I found the AZ Secretary of State, AZSOS.gov and recorder.maricopa.gov to be very helpful. I’m sure that these options, as well as others, are available where you live. Voting locations were also listed if you’re voting in person.

In Arizona early voting ended on Friday, October 30th. Voting in person on November 3rd or dropping off your mail-in ballot before 7p at an official site are your options now. This is a highly publicized, emotional, and divisive General Election so I’m encouraging each one of you to use your hard fought human right to vote, if you haven’t, as a way to have your voice heard in spite of any anxiety or fear that you may feel.

In Arizona there are over 4.2 million registered active voters. Over 2.3 million have voted early. More are eligible to vote on Tuesday, November 3rd. Arizona polls close at 7p on Tuesday, November 3rd. Ballots must be received by then. Don’t mail them in now. They can be dropped in an official DropBox, voting location or the county recorders office.

The 14th Dalai Lama has said, “Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where the people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free.” Voting is a way to express the kind of world you want to live in. What does it look like for you? In addition to what the Dalai Lama has said, I envision a world where people are treated as equals, there’s no separation, abundance abounds, and resources are available for everyone to be successful. Beauty, clean water and air, kindness; where we seek to understand one another, appreciate and embrace our differences, collaborate to find solutions, and create a world where peace prevails and where we all feel safe are some of mine. How about you?

Voting is one way that our voices are heard. John F. Kennedy, American politician and 35th President of the USA also said, “. . . is not peace, in the last analysis, basically a matter of human rights-the right to live out our lives without fear of devastation-the right to breathe air as nature provided it-the right of future generations to a healthy existence?” Your vote and voice matter! What kind of world do you want to live in? Let your voice be heard.
