You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserves your love and affection.

I hope your Thanksgiving was enjoyable. Mine was different, like many of you, and I was grateful I had energy enough to cook a few things while my husband barbecued turkey and sausages! I have to admit that once we ate I crashed and took a long nap! I’m also grateful that my COVID results came back negative. It seems like I had and I’m recovering from a nasty flu. I am on the road to recovery and feel better every day. Thanks so much for your wonderful healing wishes.

I’ve had plenty of time for self-reflection during this recovery. I realize that taking care of me hasn’t always been a high priority. I find it’s easier to take care of others first. Even while I was sick I found my first concern was not to infect my husband. Fortunately, he helped me during my weakest moments. I remember one day, as I was reflecting, the image of me as superwoman appeared. Guess what? I could see how wanting to take care of others first became a habit throughout my life. I’ve always been strong and thought I could do anything. I learned, once again, I don’t have to do it all and I’m not a very good patient!

I asked, “Why did I get sick? What’s mine to know about this experience?” One of my greatest awarenesses was “surrender”. For those of us who like to “be in charge or control things” I found it challenging to let go. Once I surrendered the outcome then recovery became easier. I’m reminded of a quote by Miya Yamanouchi, Author and empowerment counselor who said, “Our soul is like a soft and gentle flower, it needs to be nurtured, cared for, tended to, with sufficient sunlight, fresh air and freedom to bloom into its most precious and beautiful form. This, my friend, is self-love.

We are Master Gardeners aren’t we? It’s up to each one of us to nurture our inner gardens daily. This means to love ourselves enough to take care of our most precious souls. What nutrients do we use? What seeds do we want to plant and want to grow? Our garden resides within us and if we get out of balance then taking care of our inner garden becomes even more challenging. Self-care doesn’t mean being selfish. It’s essential. For when you are in harmony and feel good then you have more internal resources to draw on and share with others. Your garden will flourish!

Brene Brown, American professor, lecturer, and author reminds us to, “Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love.” Rather than make up stories about why and what you’re experiencing; why not accept and embrace the experience? Love yourself through it. Eliminate any negative self talk and love yourself enough to surrender while you rest and recover. During this time you can imagine your beautiful inner garden and continue to nurture it so the full expression of its beauty continues to radiate and shine.

I am grateful for you and send lots of love to each one of you! Please enjoy good health during this change in season while so much around us continues to shift and change. Be kind, loving, gentle, and compassionate with you!
